Cardio Or Weight? Am Or PM?
Did you know that doing an exercise at a particular time can enhance your fat burning?
Meta-analysis showed that cardio exercise in the morning before meals can increase fat burning (we call it love handle 😆 ) and many of us want to get rid of it.
Cardio exercise at fasted rate can increase blood flow, therefore, it improves fat mobilisation. (It means move stubborn fat so we can burn).
What about weight training in the evening? I am glad you asked!
According to a 2013 study, the maximum power output and time to exhaustion of the participant's muscles were higher in the evening.
It means that you will be able to train harder for longer, hence, building muscle mass and increasing metabolism = weight loss.
But here is a trick, prolonged exercise in the evening may impact our sleep cycle. It is because vigorous exercise at night time can increase nocturnal body temperature = activate the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) = may lead to a lack of sleep.
A lack of sleep can also impact our weight gain.
So what is the final verdict?
Overall, I would say cardio in the morning might be slightly better because it will benefit to maintain healthy sleep cycle and circadian rhythm.
However, I would say it is coming down to individual's choice and it is important to make it as routines - "regular exercises".
Are you a morning person or do you do shifts and have many night shifts? And, what exercises do you enjoy doing?
Those questions are also important to ask yourself.
Both exercises are proven to be effective to burn fat.
A recommended minimum of 3 hours of moderate-intensity cardio or 100 minutes of high-intensity interval training weekly is required to facilitate changes in body composition.
There you go, some interesting info about exercises. I hope you found it useful.
